How series resistance works

Resistors in series carry the same current. Their voltage drops add up to the source voltage, and their resistances add directly. Adding another resistor increases the total resistance and reduces the current at a fixed voltage.

RT=R1+R2+⋯+RnR_T = R_1 + R_2 + \cdots + R_n

Choose two, three or four resistors. The schematic and guest circuit use the selected number of parts. Advanced results show the voltage drop and heat dissipated in each resistor.
