About this circuit
A center-tapped transformer secondary feeding balanced loads.
Circuit notes
Center-Tapped Split Secondary
Application
Use this circuit to see how a center-tapped transformer secondary provides both the full secondary voltage and a midpoint voltage from the same winding.
Design Context
The secondary winding is split into two equal half-windings by the center tap. The lower secondary end is used as the reference, the top secondary end shows the full secondary output, and the center tap shows the half-height voltage.
Expected Behavior
Vpri shows the primary sine wave. Vs measures the full secondary output from the top of the secondary to the reference. Vc measures the center tap and should be roughly half of Vs because it is taken from the midpoint of the secondary winding.
Key Values
- VIN is a 10 V, 60 Hz sine source.
- T1 uses a 1:1 secondary with the center tap enabled.
- RPOS loads the full secondary output.
- RCEN loads the center-tap output.
Suggested Experiments
- Compare Vs and Vc on the chart to see the half-secondary relationship.
- Change the load values and observe how the two outputs move.
- Change the turns ratio and compare the primary, full secondary, and center-tap voltages.
Featured Component
The transformer component exposes an optional center tap so split-secondary and midpoint-voltage applications can be drawn and measured directly.
