How preferred resistor combinations works
R1 is the target resistance. R2 and R3 update to the closest two E24 values in series. A fixed 1 V test source lets you compare the target and chosen branch currents. The ranked alternatives use nominal values; resistor tolerance is a separate source of error.
E24 series pairs from 1 Ω to 10 MΩ, ranked by nominal absolute error. Equal-error pairs prefer similar resistor values.
