How low-side mosfet switch works

V2 drives the gate and R1 is the resistive load. This example solves the MOSFET load line, so insufficient gate drive is visible instead of assuming a fixed on-resistance. Advanced controls adjust the generic model’s threshold and transconductance.

ID=KP[(VGS−VT)VDS−12VDS2]I_D=K_P[(V_{GS}-V_T)V_{DS}-\tfrac12V_{DS}^2]

Level-1 square-law model with W/L = 1 at 27 °C. The calculation includes cutoff, saturation and the ohmic region, but excludes gate charge, switching loss, heating and breakdown. It does not select or rate a commercial MOSFET.

Change the form inputs or click a component value on the schematic. Choose Try in CircuitSim to simulate the configured circuit.
