How schmitt trigger works

The signal drives the inverting input. R1 feeds the output back to the non-inverting input and R2 returns it to ground. Positive feedback produces separate rising and falling thresholds. The waveform starts high and switches only when a threshold is crossed.

Ideal ±5 V switching levels. The generic op-amp guest is an educational comparator approximation, not a model of a specified comparator’s delay or output swing.
